So, someone just registered a business name at CAC and it’s no longer ₦10,000.
It’s now ₦20,000.
Yeah, you read that right. The fee has doubled. Recall, in our earlier post, it was clear that the new CAC fee increases were not to affect Business Name and Company Registration in Nigeria. Today, we confirmed that the fees have doubled.
And if you’re searching for “CAC business name registration fee 2025” or “how much is business name registration in Nigeria now,” you’re probably as confused as we were when we first heard this. Because honestly, there’s barely any information about this online.
Let me break down what we just discovered.

The New CAC Business Name Registration Fees (October 2025)
Based on a recent registration experience by a friend, here’s what you’ll actually pay at CAC right now:
- Name Reservation: ₦1,000 (was ₦500)
- Business Name Registration: ₦20,000 (was ₦10,000)
- Remita Charge: ₦161.25 (payment processing fee)
Total for name reservation: ₦1,161.25
Total for registration: ₦20,161.25

So you’re looking at over ₦21,000 just to get your business name registered. That’s more than double what it used to be.
Wait, Where’s the Official Announcement?
Here’s where it gets frustrating.
We searched everywhere. The CAC website. Google. News sites. Legal blogs. Everywhere.
And guess what? There’s no clear announcement about this specific fee increase for business name registration.
Yes, there was a CAC fee review announced in August 2025, but that one specifically mentioned it was for post-incorporation services like striking off companies, relisting, and due diligence searches. They literally said the fee review “does not affect the cost of registering a new business or company.”
So what happened?
Either:
- CAC quietly increased the fees after that announcement
- The increase happened at the portal level without proper documentation
- There’s a new directive that hasn’t been widely published yet
And that’s a problem.
Why This Matters (And Why We’re Concerned)
Look, I get it. Government agencies need to cover costs. Digital transformation isn’t cheap. Economic realities and all that.
But here’s the thing – transparency matters.
When you’re trying to start a business in Nigeria, you’re already dealing with enough uncertainty. The last thing you need is to budget ₦10,000 for registration only to find out it’s actually ₦20,000 when you get to the portal.
That’s a 100% increase. For someone bootstrapping a business, that extra ₦10,000 isn’t nothing.
And the fact that this information is so hard to find? That’s concerning.
Business owners, entrepreneurs, and even legal practitioners are still referencing the old fees online because that’s what the official documents say. Meanwhile, people who actually go to register are paying double.

What About Limited Company Registration?
Good question. We don’t have firsthand confirmation yet, but if business name registration has increased, it’s possible other registration fees have changed too.
The last official fee schedule we could find shows:
- Private Limited Company (share capital ≤ ₦1 million): ₦10,000
- Public Limited Company (share capital ≤ ₦1 million): ₦20,000
But again, if business name fees have doubled, I wouldn’t be surprised if company registration fees have also been adjusted.
If you’ve recently registered a limited company, please drop a comment and let us know what you paid. Let’s get accurate information out there.
How to Check Current CAC Fees (The Real Ones)
Since the official CAC website and documentation seem to be lagging behind actual portal fees, here’s what we recommend:
- Go directly to the CAC portal when you’re ready to register. Don’t rely on third-party websites (including this one after a few months).
- Call CAC directly at their customer care line before starting. Get confirmation on current fees.
- Use accredited CAC agents who are actively processing registrations and know the current fees.
- Budget extra. If you see ₦10,000 online but you’re planning to register soon, budget at least ₦20,000 to be safe.
- Check Remita charges separately. That ₦161.25 might seem small but it adds up, especially if you’re doing multiple transactions.
Our Take on This
At Qrafteq, we’re all about making business processes in Nigeria easier and more transparent. That’s why we’re putting this out there.
Fee increases happen. We understand that. But communication around those increases should be clear, timely, and accessible.
When government agencies make changes that directly affect thousands of entrepreneurs trying to formalize their businesses, that information should be front and center. Not something people discover by surprise at the payment stage.
So CAC, if you’re reading this – please update your official fee schedules online. Put out a clear announcement. Help people plan better.
And to everyone else trying to register a business name right now – yes, it’s ₦20,000. Budget accordingly.
What Should You Do Now?
If you’re planning to register a business name:
- Budget ₦20,000 + Remita charges for the registration
- Budget ₦1,000 + Remita charges for name reservation
- Don’t delay if you were already planning to register – fees might increase again
- Verify fees directly at the CAC portal before starting your registration process
- Share your experience – if you recently registered, let others know what you paid
“Can’t I Just Do It Myself for ₦20,000?”
Fair question. And yes, technically you can.
But here’s what that ₦20,000 doesn’t include:
- Time spent navigating the CAC portal (which can be frustrating if you’re not familiar with it)
- Dealing with rejections if your documents aren’t formatted correctly
- Following up when things get stuck
- Understanding compliance requirements beyond just registration
- Getting it done right the first time without delays
At Qrafteq, we handle CAC registrations for clients who’d rather spend their time building their business than wrestling with government portals. Yes, there’s a service fee. But you’re paying for expertise, speed, and peace of mind.
We believe in transparency – which is why we’re telling you exactly what the CAC fees are. What you do with that information is up to you.
Want to DIY? Go for it. We’ve got guides on our blog to help.
Want us to handle it? Get in touch and we’ll get you registered fast.
Either way, at least now you know what to budget.
Final Thoughts
Starting a business in Nigeria shouldn’t be this confusing. And it definitely shouldn’t involve surprise fee increases that aren’t properly communicated.
We’ll keep updating this post as we get more information. If you have recent registration experience or any official information about these fee changes, please share in the comments below.
